Hermetically sealed transformers use a sealed tank construction designed to minimize exposure of the transformer insulation system to atmospheric moisture and contamination.
Because there is no breather and no conservator, the routine maintenance associated with oil level checks and breather servicing is reduced — which matters most where units are installed outdoors, in remote locations or where regular attendance is impractical.
